At least 24 people have died and dozens injured after a wall collapsed onto guests at a wedding ceremony in India.

He said the entire structure of the wall and the shed collapsed and they got trapped.

"As per the official figures, 23 people including 11 men, eight women and four children were killed".

A case has been registered against the owner of the marriage hall, police said.

District authorities have also made a decision to assemble a committee to investigate structural engineering at other marriage venues, Tank said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday on Sewar road in Bharatpur where a almost 12-feet high wall collapsed following a storm accompanied by rains.

People were standing near the food stalls set up along with the wall at the time of the incident.

The announcement said Rs 50,000 would be given to the seriously injured. "I hope the injured recover soon".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said in a Twitter post he was pained by the accident.

Those injured were taken to hospital nearby for emergency care.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje offered her condolences to the victims and ordered authorities to ensure proper treatment for the injured.

Rajasthan is one of the driest States of India and suffers from frequent dust storms during the hot months.

In 2013, an illegal building in Mumbai caved in, killing 74 people.
