Kirkersville Police Chief, Two Employees And Suspect Killed In Nursing Home Attack

Thorp said two Pine Kirk employees were found dead inside the facility.

Thorp said law enforcers were still working to determine what, if any, relationship the man had with the nursing home.

Authorities say a police officer was wounded during reports of a shooting at an OH nursing home.

Disario was responding to a report of a man with a gun, and his last radio communication said he had the suspect in sight, Thorp said.

Reports of the shooting at the Pine Kirk Care Center in Kirkersville came around 7:30 a.m. Police told the Newark Advocate that there is no threat to the public at this point. The father of six had only been police chief for three weeks.

Responding officers found Disario on the street and then investigated a report of a gunman at the nursing home, Thorp said.

A sheriff says a gunman who killed an OH police chief and two female nursing home employees took two random people as hostages shortly before the shootings.

USA 40 is closed in the area and will remain closed for the remainder of the day, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

A police officer has been shot during an active shooter situation in Licking County, just east of Columbus.

Thorp says Pine Kirk Care Center is a secure facility and investigators don't know how the gunman got in.

Kirkersville is a small village about 25 miles (40km) outside Columbus, the capital of Ohio.

Police are still investigating and are unsure yet of a motive or what weapons were used.

The state Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is leading the probe into what happened.

"Join me in praying for his family, friends and colleagues, and for the others injured in this tragedy", the Republican governor said.

Gov. John Kasich ordered flags flown at half-staff in Licking County and the Statehouse and expressed his condolences in a tweet. His body has been taken to the Licking County Coroner's Office for an autopsy.
