China seriously concerned over North Koreas nuclear programme

Trump China US working on'North Korea problem

Behind the heated rhetoric, in fact, Trump's strategy in the region looks somewhat similar to predecessor Barack Obama's - albeit with the added unpredictability of a new president who has shown he's willing to use force.

North Korea showed no let-up in its defiance after a failed missile test on Sunday, a day after putting on a huge display of missiles in Pyongyang.

Mattis struck an even tougher tone on North Korea in an interview with reporters traveling with him to Saudi Arabia. The unilateral strike in Syria created a precedent and the Chinese fear that the U.S. under Trump could unleash a similar attack on North Korea.

How did we get to this point? The missile reportedly blew up on the launch pad, resulting in another failed test for their nuclear weapons program.

"I wouldn't describe relations between North Korea and the Obama administration as an era of strategic patience, because the United States greatly restricted North Korea's ability to develop the industries that could promote the nuclear or energy sectors".

Earlier in the trip, the vice president said he hopes the tensions with North Korea can be resolved peacefully, but underscored that President Trump will not tolerate any more shenanigans from saber-rattling Kim Jong-Un. The high-profile failure came as the North tried to showcase its nuclear and missile capabilities around the birth anniversary of the North's late founder and as a USA aircraft carrier neared the Korean Peninsula.

Tensions between the secretive communist state and the USA have ratcheted up in recent weeks and the U.S. leader recently boasted that he had dispatched an "armada" to the waters off the Korean peninsula. During the large scale military parade new missiles and military hardware were wheeled out in front of the North Korean public "in a show of military strength", according to U.S. today. Our commitment to this historic alliance with the courageous people of South Korea has never been stronger.

Speaking alongside South Korea's acting President Hwang Kyo-ahn on Monday, Mr Pence said North Korea should not test US President Donald Trump.

"Just in the past two weeks, the world witnessed the strength and resolve of our new president in actions taken in Syria and Afghanistan", Mr Pence said.

"It won't happen", Trump has said of North Korea's developing an ICBM that could hit the United States.

"We are with you 100 per cent", he said.

And in Washington, top officials now express hope that North Korea's great power neighbor China will apply the necessary political and economic pressure to halt its nuclear tests.

And now that North Korea has declared its goal to be building missiles with nuclear warheads that could hit all US bases in Asia - and even California - the clock is running for the White House.

Beijing has signed up to United Nations sanctions against North Korea's missile and nuclear programs, and in February vowed to halt coal imports, but trade and finance continue.

Also complicating matters: The unpredictability of President Donald Trump, who earlier this month tweeted that the USA welcomed China's help in resolving the crisis, then added, "If not, we will solve the problem without them!"

The U.S.is piling the pressure on Beijing to use its clout with North Korea to rein in its nuclear and missile programs.

The North regularly launches short-range missiles, but is also developing mid-range and long-range missiles meant to target USA troops in Asia and, eventually, the US mainland.

Chinese companies have been involved in the transfer of foreign technology to North Korea, and many of those products made their way into North Korean missiles, reports the Wall Street Journal. Quite in contrast to the United States which live tested its first nuclear weapon on a helpless civilian Japanese population during the closing stages of World War II which killed hundreds of thousands of civilians in a matter of minutes and left hundreds of thousands of others injured and two cities completely destroyed.

China has reiterated its call for North Korea to stop all tests, and has also called for a peaceful solution.

Foreign ministry spokesman Lu Kang said China opposed words or actions that could further raise tension.
