Ayer, who won acclaim penning the hard-hitting Training Day and making gritty movies such as End of Watch, is in talks to direct Universal's Scarface, which is trading in its Miami locale for the streets of L.A. The movie is now slated to debut in the fall of next year, meaning that they would need a director and the full team ready to go in the near future.

Is David Ayer a good choice to direct the new Scarface movie?

Rogue One star Diego Luna is attached to play gangster Tony Montana with the Coen brothers writing most of the remakes recent rewrite.

Next up for Ayer is Netflix's Bright starring Will Smith as a Los Angeles Police Department police officer who teams up with an Orc cop in a world that's populated by humans and mythical creatures.

Earlier this year, Ayer admitted that Jared Leto's Joker should have been the film's main villain in Suicide Squad after one moviegoer was so frustrated by the lack of Leto in the film that he even threatened to sue Warner Bros for false advertising. He is already in place to direct to Suicide Squad spinoff film Gotham City Sirens.

The new "Scarface", will be produced by Dylan Clark for his Dylan Clark Productions and Scott Stuber. Martin Bregman, producer of the 1983 "Scarface" film, will also produce.

The first theatrical Scarface made it to theaters in 1932 from director Howard Hawks and told the story of an Irish immigrant's rise to power as a gangster in 1920s Chicago.
