WWE Backlash Results - The Viper is no more

Now all paths lead to Backlash where Jinder Mahal will get the biggest opportunity of his career as the confident "Maharaja" will challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Championship. To watch or stream WWE Backlash live, check out our viewer's guide. After all, this is a wrestler who didn't even get much screen time a few months ago.

Orton kept the upper hand, though, hitting a huge RKO on Jinder that forced the Singh Brothers, who have been supporting Mahal for weeks, to swoop in and pull him out of the ring before Randy could cover him.

This match just felt like a standard match you would see on SmackDown. We might never know the answer to that, but with such a stark contrast in how he was being used, you can pretty much figure out the day when it it happened.

While I can understand the complaints that Mahal hasn't earned a title shot or deserves to be a champion, it's actually a brilliant move by WWE.

What do you think of Jinder Mahal's comments? Mahal was considered to be nothing more than glorified enhancement talent, but that all changed when he became the number one contender to Randy Orton's WWE Championship on the April 18 episode of SmackDown Live.

The storytelling in the match was spot-on, with Owens targeting AJ's injured leg throughout the bout. The Kevin Owens Show made its debut on "SmackDown" following the Superstar Shake-up, and Owens regained his U.S. Championship from Chris Jericho shortly thereafter. Several times the Singh Brothers got involved, most notably towards the end of the match. Not every match on the card I saw in 2004 was great.

Whilst the ending may have left a sour taste in some people's mouths as count out victories are a cheap way to end a match, this was at least a unique way of doing it that this writer hasn't seen before, with AJ getting his foot trapped inside a gap in the announcer's table.

"I'm one win away from becoming WWE Champion".

Much of the buildup for Backlash was built around the broadcast in-ring debut of Shinsuke Nakamura, almost 50 days after he made his post-WrestleMania move to SmackDown Live.

This one is gonna be a show worth spending your pennies for.

Natalya put the sharp shooter on Becky Lynch and Lynch had no other option other than tapping out with her tag partners Charlotte and Naomi not able to come to their partner's aid.

English put on a good match, but lost to Dillinger for a third straight time after eating a Tye Breaker - a fireman's carry into a single knee face breaker. I want to retire, when it's all said and done, as one of the greats.

Kevin Owens, Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler, AJ Styles, Randy Orton, Baron Corbin, Sami Zayn....and the Champion is now Jinder freaking Mahal. Last night was no different at Backlash, as Zayn found himself crusin' for a bruisen' against Baron Corbin.
