At the conclusion of the day, five of 12 jurors were selected for Cosby's sexual assault trial.

The tedious task of selecting a jury for entertainer Bill Cosby's sexual assault trial began Monday in Pittsburgh and some local lawyers predicted Cosby's notoriety and juror hardship could be hurdles to getting that jury quickly.

Bill Cosby has arrived at the Pittsburgh courthouse where jury selection in his sex assault case is getting underway. The demographic as of now reportedly consists of a middle-aged white woman, a middle-aged white man with a relative who is a sexual assault survivor, a young white men, and an elderly white man, and another white woman who looks to be no older than 30, NBC reports.

The trial is set to begin on June 5 in Montgomery County, 300 miles away from Pittsburgh where the jury selection is taking place. "I would think this process could take weeks".

14 said their preconceived notion would prevent them from being fair or impartial.

Cosby is accused of drugging and molesting a woman at his home in 2004.

Constand, who was 30 when the alleged assault took place and is a massage therapist in Canada, is nearly certain to testify because the prosecution case relies heavily on her memories of the encounter with Cosby, according to legal experts.

At least 60 women have publicly accused Cosby of rape, sexual assault or sexual harassment between the 1960s and the 2000s. The jury from Pittsburgh will be sequestered almost 300 miles from home. Their names, ages and occupations are being kept private.

Cosby entered the courtroom in Pittsburgh on the arm of an aide, using a cane and carrying a box of tissues.

According to the news station, one-third of the potential jurors said they'd already formed opinions about Cosby's innocence or guilt. Sometimes that is not so easy, one law professor said.

The case against Cosby has attracted worldwide publicity that the judge hopes to shield from jurors during the trial. Both men say they or someone close to them has been sexually assaulted, but they insisted they could set that aside to fairly judge the case.

"Because you're going to have to relocate people for what presumably is going to be a lengthy jury trial".

The defense has used four of its seven strikes. Cosby has said he believes the case may have racial overtones.

Jury selection is expected to last all week.

Each side can reject seven potential jurors and three alternates without explanation.

From the defense standpoint, Hilles said he'd seek someone with a "strong constitution". When radio host Michael Smerconish noted that some of his accusers were black and others white, Cosby said, "Well, let me put it to you this way".

Dozens of women have leveled similar allegations at Cosby stretching back decades, though Constand's claims are the only ones to result in criminal charges.

Cosby gave extraordinary testimony in 2005 and 2006 during a civil lawsuit filed against him by Constand.

35 admitted they or someone close to them had been the victim of sexual assault. Judge Steven O'Neill asked the first group of 100 jury candidates. Prosecutors wanted thirteen of them to testify to establish an MO, but the judge only allowed one.

Cosby was arrested December 30, 2015, days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired. He has pleaded not guilty and remains free on $1 million bail. "I may have heard something here or there", the middle-aged woman said. "I want to get back to the laughter and the enjoyment of things that I've written and things that I perform on stage".
