Trump arrives for talks with Palestinian leader in Bethlehem

He is the first sitting USA president to visit Old City Jerusalem and go to the Western Wall.

Throughout his stops in the Middle East, the President has made expanding counter-terrorism efforts a key theme. During his earlier visit with Arab leaders in Saudi Arabia, the US leader said he "found new reasons for hope" for a joint peace effort and greater coordination in the fight against terrorism.

"They are not born with prejudices", he said. "Palestinians in Bethlehem say they feel like they're living in a ghetto with it".

A USA administration official confirmed on condition of anonymity that the original intelligence came from Israel, which was initially reported by the New York Times.

"Iran's leaders routinely call for Israel's destruction", Trump said.

Trump said he was looking forward to cooperate with the Palestinian president and provide economic support.

Israel has no diplomatic relations with Saudi Arabia despite informal ties on certain levels, particularly around shared concerns over Iran. "The ties of the Jewish people to this holy land are ancient and eternal", he said, again, to a standing ovation.

Trump expressed optimism about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

After greeting Trump with a firm handshake, Hazan whipped out his phone and said: "I wish I could do a selfie with you".

"I think (Trump) feels like there's a moment in time here", Tillerson told reporters traveling with the president on Air Force One.

Trump left for Jerusalem after the welcome ceremony for his meeting with Israeli president Reuven Rivlin at the President's House. "So you had another story wrong", said Trump.

"Making peace will not be easy".

He added: "If Israelis and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East".

"I also firmly believe that if Israel and the Palestinians can make peace, it will begin a process of peace all throughout the Middle East, and that would be an wonderful accomplishment", the US President said on the last day of his Middle East visit.

As I discussed with President Abbas in Washington earlier this month, I am committed to trying to achieve a peace agreement between the Israelis and the Palestinians and I intend to do everything I can to help them achieve that goal.
