Mourinho relishes United's 'victory of pragmatism'

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville believes the club should stage a victory parade following their Europa League trophy win and "share their success with the city".

The Spanish playmaker added that it has been a "very, very hard week for our fans and the city of Manchester" but that gave the team extra motivation for the game as "we tried to win" especially for everyone that lost someone in the attack.

After the victory that got Manchester qualification for next season's Champions League, Mourinho said that he respects and studies his opponents.

After giving up on finishing in the top four of the Premier League in the last few weeks, the Portuguese hedged all his bets on winning the Europa League to get into next season's Champions League.

Jose Mourinho has sent a message to Ed Woodward over Manchester United's summer transfer plans after securing Champions League football for next season.

United, wearing all blue as they did in winning the 1968 European Cup final, made an imposing start, with Pogba whistling a shot wide of the near post within the first minute. "We always thought that we could win the Europa League and we are obviously very happy, especially because the way we played the final".

Juan Mata and Chris Smalling emphasised how Manchester United were extra motivated to win the Europa League following Monday's atrocities at Manchester Arena.

I would obviously, me and everyone else, we would change this trophy for the people that lost their lives, that's obvious. "We performed like a big team today and I think our fans can be very proud of us".

"We were simply not good enough", Klaassen told Dutch broadcaster RTL7 after the match.

"Ed Woodward has had my analysis and what I want for more than two months, Now it's for him and the owners, I just wait and see but I don't care about football now".

"We went out focused to win and we won for Manchester and the country".

"It's a dark time and we knew we had to win to give something back to Manchester", Lingard told MUTV.

Mourinho said that he felt his side were superior to Peter Bosz's Eredivisie squad and that their quality showed throughout the match, while also crediting Ajax for their performance.

"I think there's a big difference in how the teams play - it's not about strength but how you use your bodies".
