Sri Lankan landslide survivors watch military rescue efforts at Bellana village in Kalutara district, Sri Lanka, Friday, May 26, 2017.

The Meteorology Department said that current rain along with the windy conditions are to continue.

Officials said deaths were reported from the western coastal district of Kalutara, the central southern district of Ratnapura and the southern district of Matara.

Pakistan said it was in talks with Sri Lankan authorities to identify its needs.

In May past year, over 100 people lost their lives due to a massive landslide in the central regions of the country.

INS Kirch operating in South Bay of Bengal, has been diverted to Colombo in Sri Lanka to render immediate assistance in flood relief operations. 40 people with injuries have been admitted to various hospitals in the country.

The Sri Lankan government on Friday made an appeal to the United Nations, the International Search and Rescue Advisory Group (INSARAG) and neighbouring countries to provide assistance for the affected people, especially in the areas where search and rescue operations were ongoing.

"Taranjit Sandhu handed over the supplies to Ravi Karunanayake, Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka, at Colombo port", it stated.

Modi also expressed condolences at the loss of lives and property and said that India stands with her Sri Lankan brothers and sisters in their hour of need.

The first ship will reach Colombo tomorrow morning. "Further assistance on its way", he said in a series of tweets.

India has offered more aid, including helicopters, to boost the relief operations, government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne said.

Some 12,007 people were being sheltered in 69 temporary sites, it added.

In addition, military has deployed thousands of troops to reach flood-hit villagers and the air force have been carrying out several rescue operations across affected regions.
