Australian trafficker Corby to return home amid media storm

Schapelle Corby deportation

Schapelle Corby deportation

Everybody gets the same treatment.

"See what I mean when I say feels like a crab?"

More than 200 police officers and private security guards made sure she was deported from Indonesia last night without a hitch.

She managed to outsmart the media by heading back to Brisbane on a different flight than had been widely expected, apparently to avoid travelling with a large contingent of reporters.

She was also reportedly visited by her hired bodyguard, who has worked for stars such as Roger Federer and Lady Gaga.

At her third and final stop, two vans filled with police with blue lights flashing turned up only to roll away with no Corby in tow, sending media scampering.

Schapelle Corby's sister Mercedes has arrived in Bali to offer support to her sibling in the lead-up to her deportation to Australia later this month.

Bali:???The media - so loathed by Schapelle Corby during her dark days in jail - got its comeuppance on Saturday, with the convicted drug smuggler hoodwinking it to the end with a canny flight swap.

Lawyers for Corby claimed in 2005 that she'd been unknowingly used as a courier by organised interstate drug smugglers.

Ms Corby's short journey to the parole office was accompanied by an armoured vehicle convoy, guarded by 275 Kuta and Denpasar police officers and tailed by a clamouring press army.

Earlier police had locked arms around the auto to push back media as she left her home.

Two convoys, followed by the media, left the airport, and took separate routes.

Mr Sumara said he was checking security in the area, which is a tourist precinct, and revealed that police will now also be involved in providing escorts for Corby today when her deportation process begins. "She said to us, You can see that I am healthy".

Adding to the drama and public interest, the court hearings were broadcast live and included emotional outbursts from Corby and her family when she received a 20-year sentence.

Corby will find it odd being back in Australia after such a long period spent in an Indonesian prison. The actions in tthe lead up to her release gave a very strong impression that this was a special case. Ida Bagus Wiswantan, the original Indonesian prosecutor in her case, said that he and his colleagues were very close to asking the judge for the firing squad for Corby.

"For sure it (the death penalty) was discussed". I felt that Corby can still rehabilitate herself so the death sentence is not the punishment. If she got the death sentence she can not rehabilitate.

In jail, Corby forgot what it felt like to have sand between her toes. "I know you always do your absolute best for me", she wrote in her autobiography.

There's the crippling traffic in Bali, as well as the growing media pack, all wanting their piece of Schapelle.

Schapelle Corby has arrived back in Australia for the first time in more than 12 years.

A photo of her Virgin Australia boarding pass was even circulated on social media, showing her seated in 1A.

"She came here for a holiday and her sister's birthday and after twelve and a half years she is going back and Australia and the world has changed so much", Ms Bonella said.
