Unveiled at CES earlier this year, the Compute Card boasts 4GB of RAM and 128GB of flash storage, as well as built-in AC 8265 wireless networking and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.

Intel also showed a prototype laptop for students that's powered by a Compute Card. The Compute Card is planned to launch in August.

Today, Intel took the Computex center stage by storm.

On the PC side, Intel noted that innovation is coming from across the ecosystem, from stylishly designed always-connected 2 in 1s, to incredibly powerful high-end desktops, to solutions that focus on delivering virtual reality rather than processing data from the real world.

The Compute Card architecture allows for easy upgrading, with more powerful cards replacing older models, allowing users to keep their systems fast and up-to-date.

LG and Sharp are now slated to make smart monitors and digital signage, respectively, while Foxconn (as well as companies like ECS, Seneca and NexDoc) are developing miniature desktops and all-in-one PCs that can be easily upgraded by swapping out Compute Cards.

Partnerships with brands like Dell, Lenovo, HP and Pasuntech were announced, but no products were declared as of now. Intel is also releasing a Compute Card Device Design Kit, a set of guides and reference designs that contain the information a device developer will need to create a product that supports a Compute Card. It targets applications such as smart screens, interactive appliances and industrial sites, where space is limited but full computing power is needed. The product will initially be available in four SKUs, as outlined below.
