Bubble watch: Winners and losers from 49ers' Elvis Dumervil signing

49ers general manager John Lynch announced the news on his Twitter page, and the team confirmed the acquisition shortly after.

The news of the Dumervil signing came not long after the Niners announced they have signed veteran cornerback Brandon Boykin. He had a career-low three sacks last season for the Ravens when he was limited to eight games because of an Achilles injury.

Dumervil is in the twilight of his career, to be sure, but the five-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro still has plenty to offer a young defense.

The deal is for two years, according to ESPN. The 11-year veteran has amassed 352 tackles, 99 sacks, and 23 forced fumbles through the course of his career.

The 49ers have been rebuilding their pass rush through the draft. Dumervil was released by the Ravens on March 8th.

On the other hand, Dumervil originally broke into the professional ranks of the National Football League back in 2006-07 as a member of the Denver Broncos.

Speaking of that defense, Dumervil could immediately wind up being a starting EDGE for San Francisco as it looks to bolster a lowly pass rush in 2017.

Before Dumervil, Aaron Lynch was in the lead for LEO duties, but as a converted 3-4 outside linebacker, he had some conditioning issues this offseason. Dumervil and Lynch played together in Denver in 2006 and 2007.

The 49ers must make a corresponding roster move once Dumervil officially signs.
