Alexander no longer works at Uber.

According to reports in the New York Times, the executive, Eric Alexander read and discussed medical information about the victim in India.

"Travis should never have looked at the report, and he should have fired him immediately", said one executive.

The memo is part of an ongoing investigation, conducted by law firm Perkins Coie, into 215 instances of workplace transgressions, including sexual harassment, at Uber, according to USA TODAY.

And in a recent interview with USA TODAY, Uber HR boss Liane Hornsey suggested that sexual harassment was not among the company's top issues, adding that employee morale and compensation were the major concerns. Thirty one other employees are in remedial training, while seven received final warnings about their behaviour.

According to the report, Alexander was still in possession of the victim's medical records and documents for nearly a year after the incident before other company executives obtained the report and destroyed his copy of the medical records. "She had filed a lawsuit against the company, saying that Uber's "hollow" safety and driver screening practices was the cause for her unsafe situation". He said it was not right for the company to use government records for its private investigation.

She had filed a suit in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. However, the accused Uber driver was subsequently found to be facing four other criminal charges and was sentenced to life in this assault, with Uber India president Amit Jain publicly praising the verdict and pledging stricter background checks for drivers. Uber, which has been the focus of a string of investigations lately, is hoping that this move will help resurrect its image.

The case began in 2014, when an Indian woman reported to police that an Uber driver drove her to a secluded area and raped her.

The news website contacted the company about Alexander's actions and it was told that he was no longer employed there.

Worse: Alexander carried around the document for about a year before other executives - presumably the legal department - obtained the report and destroyed his copy, according to the sources.

Ola, however, slammed this alleged view of top Uber executives.

Still, the incident was a dark stain on Uber's reputation in India, and perhaps more broadly in Asia. In February this year, Susan Fowler, a former site reliability engineer at Uber published a blog alleging sexual harassment and discrimination at the company.
