Huffington, who has called CEO Travis Kalanick a "close friend", joined Uber's board of directors as its only female member in 2016.

Last week, Uber fired more than 20 employees, following a separate investigated by Perkins Coie.

Uber has hired the law firm of former Attorney General Eric Holder to review policies and recommend changes.

Uber's board members are meeting today to discuss a "leave of absence" for Kalanick, who just weeks ago promised that he would find the "leadership help" that he admitted he needed after a solid month of scandals rocked the company.

Kalanick has been at the center of many of Uber's crises, including accepting (and later relinquishing) a role on President Trump's business advisory panel, being caught on video arguing with an Uber driver, and sending a recently surfaced company-wide email that advised employees to not have non-consensual sex with each other. Former engineer Susan J. Fowler left after a year of "strange, fascinating and slightly horrifying" experiences including having a manager sexually proposition her, only to have human resources explain he would not be disciplined because he was a "high performer".

Uber confirmed to the BBC that Alexander no longer worked at the firm - but offered no further comment. The board will also be discussing CEO Travis Kalanick leave of absence from the ride-hailing start up.

"If [Kalanick] really wants to save the company, he has to get himself out", says Paul Argenti, a professor of corporate communication at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth. Michael has not resigned, according to the Times, but the Wall Street Journal reported that he is expected to do so as early as Monday. He said his "beliefs and approach to leadership" were "inconsistent" with those of the company.

The recommendations will be released to Uber employees tomorrow, the representative said.

Following Sundays board meeting, any recommendations are expected to be relayed to employees at an all-hands meeting Tuesday.

But the objective for the trip was to celebrate Uber's roll out to 50 cities around the world and to take part in a local grassroots movement to bring Uber to Miami, so Kalanick also urged employees to let loose.

Kalanick has been mainly on leave since a tragic boating accident almost two weeks ago killed his mother and left his father in hospital.
