Iran Calls for Solving Rift over Qatar

Implications of the ISIS Attacks in Tehran

Implications of the ISIS Attacks in Tehran

Iran and Saudi Arabia accuse each other of subverting regional security and support opposite sides in conflicts including those in Syria, Yemen and Iraq.

Last month, the US Senate's Foreign Relations Committee voted in favor of legislation that would authorize Trump to impose new sanctions on Iran over its missile program, which Tehran has repeatedly said is defensive.

Seventeen people were killed and more than 40 injured last Wednesday when three gunmen stormed the parliament building in the centre of Tehran and two more the mausoleum of the Islamic Republic's founding father, ... The attack was claimed by Islamic State militants via its news agency Amaq.

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has accused the USA of creating Islamic State and fuelling instability in the Middle East. Khamenei said Iran had no intention of normalizing ties with the United States. It was fodder for conspiracy-minded Iranians who believe that Islamic State is the joint creation of its main Sunni adversary and its main Western adversary.

"You [the United States] and your agents are the source of instability in the Middle East..."

It is of note that on March 26, 2017, ISIS published a 37-minute video accusing Iranian Shi'ites of committing many crimes against Sunnis and oppressing the Sunni population of Iran, "exporting the revolution", spreading Shi'ism, and secretly collaborating with the U.S. and Israel. Also, on June 6, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said Iran had to be "punished" for what he called "its interference in the region".

The letter said the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps is a tool that exports extremist Iranian ideology and spreads terrorism in the world by supporting extremist militias with arms, money, and people.

The former UN S.G. said that recent presidential (May 19) elections in Iran has signaled required message to West. The fingers of blame were pointed at Saudi Arabia and the USA, who were accused of being behind the attacks.

Iranian parliamentarian Abdolkarim Hosseinzadeh has suggested that June 7, the day when ISIS terrorists killed 17 people in twin attacks on Tehran, should be named as National Day of Solidarity against Terrorism.

Baluchistan province is home to a Sunni population who form a minority in majority Shia Iran.

"They did not come from Iran". The attacks on Tehran are likely to bear down on Iran both domestically and externally.
