(AP) - The escaped inmates wanted in the slayings of two Georgia prison guards have been captured in Rutherford County.

After a Rutherford County, Tennessee, Sheriff's Office unit spotted the couple's stolen vehicle on the road, authorities were called in and they pursued the suspects in a 10-mile chase with speeds reaching over 100 miles per hour, officials said.

Despite the terrible news of the week, including the killing of two prison guards in Georgia and the attempted assassination of Republican congressmen in Arlington, VA on Wednesday it was a good week for good guys with guns.

Their weapons were recovered at the crash site and no one was injured in the chase, according to the news station.

The guards were named as Christopher Monica, a strapping 42-year-old, and Curtis Billue, 58, an experienced and highly-regarded prison worker.

Photos of Dubose and Rowe were shared hundreds of thousands of times across social media since Tuesday morning, when authorities say the inmates overpowered and killed two corrections officers on a prison transport bus, filled with more than 30 other inmates, near Eatonton, Ga.

Protocol is to have two armed corrections officers on the bus, but the officers don't wear bullet-proof vests during transfers, Dozier said.

"I think it's a testament to the training, I think it's a testament to our individuals and I think it's a testament to our men and women at the sheriff's office, that they handled themselves very well in a very tight, tough situation". Sgt. Christopher Monica and Sgt. Curtis Billue were fatally shot. They also allegedly "robbed two homes, tied up and terrorized an elderly couple".

Authorities say the two inmates overpowered and disarmed the guards on a bus about 6:45 a.m. Tuesday as 33 inmates were being driven between prisons., Tenn. Due to their tireless efforts, the public is safe.

After their escape on Tuesday, in Putnam County, Georgia, Sheriff Howard Sills said that #The Public was in grave danger and the whereabouts of the inmates were unknown.

The pair shot to death two prison officers during the escape in the early hours of Tuesday, as they were being moved between two penal facilities. "My honest thanks to our local, state and federal law enforcement officers who assisted in the manhunt", Deal wrote.

Authorities said the last sign of the two fugitives remains the theft of a 2008 white Ford F-250 pickup truck with the Georgia tag BCX-5372 from a rock quarry several miles away from where they fled the bus in Putnam County, Georgia.

Local authorities in Jasper County, South Carolina, just north of Savannah, Georgia, said this afternoon that a potential sighting was reported in the area today, but South Carolina state investigators later said the sighting was not them.

The fugitives were taken to the Rutherford County jail, and in a hearing on Friday, wearing orange jumpsuits and surrounded by officers, they waived their right to challenge their extraditions to Georgia.

Rowe began serving a life sentence without parole in 2002 and Dubose began serving a 20-year sentence in 2015.

The FBI was involved in a nationwide search after authorities suspected the escapees had fled Georgia.

By about 5 p.m. they were on the run again, in the couple's Jeep.

Police say the two then burglarized a Georgia home and stole a vehicle. Monica had been with the Georgia Department of Corrections since October 2009 and Billue since July 2007.

A photo of the two suspects after their capture was quickly shared by law enforcement and news agencies across the country Thursday night.

According to New York Daily News, the men were both serving time for armed robbery among other violent crimes.
