Anger erupts in London as Grenfell protesters take to the streets

London high-rise fire: Cladding may have helped spread blaze

Engineering experts and fire safety specialists believe the building's exterior cladding may have quickly fueled the blaze, overwhelming fire protection devices.

May made a private visit to the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital which is treating eight survivors on Friday afternoon, after being heavily criticized for attending the site but not meeting the Tower block's residents.

Frank adds that anger is rising in London about the deaths - for example, a leading tabloid was emblazoned with the headline "Arrest the Killers" while Labour MP David Lammy has said the incident amounts to "corporate manslaughter". Mr Barwell lost his bid for re- election to Parliament and is now Mrs May's chief of staff.

Prime Minister Theresa May is to meet victims from the Grenfell Tower disaster at Downing Street. They say their complaints were ignored - and fear it was because the tower was full of poor people in a predominantly wealthy borough.

This type of cladding is 2 pounds cheaper, about $2.56, per square meter than the alternative Reynobond FR, which stands for "fire resistant".

"Frankly, the support on the ground for families who needed help or basic information in the initial hours after this appalling disaster was not good enough", she said.

She said earlier that the national mood is somber but that Britain is resolute in the face of adversity.

When asked if empty houses would be requisitioned he replied: "We need to look at what is necessary, I'm not convinced that kind of action is necessary because we can find homes that we need here locally through other means".

"She wanted an entirely controlled situation in which she didn't use her humanity", former cabinet minister Michael Portillo told the BBC.

Her second visit ended with jeers from local residents whose frustration was confounded when the PM was quickly ushered into a auto after visiting a local church where help was being organised.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Friday sent an open letter to May, demanding that she explain how she will support the community following the deadly fire.

Mr Javid was pressed on what would happen to other buildings with the same cladding as Grenfell Tower.

"People were telling them to stay in the building but they had hope because they listened".

"The reason we had to pause the search and recovery yesterday was for the safety of our staff".

"That's one of the most awful things I have ever seen", William said of the tower's blackened shell. "Sadly we do not expect there to be any survivors".

Some desperate residents pleaded to speak to the queen and her grandson about their plight and the fate of missing children as they left the site, with William promising he would return.

Police said on Thursday that they had launched a criminal investigation into the fire.

Police also confirmed the first victim of the Grenfell Tower disaster has been formally identified as Mohammed Al Haj Ali.

Cundy added that it will take weeks or longer to recover and identify all the dead in the public housing block that was devastated by a fire early Wednesday.
