Donald Trump signs Qatar arms deal

Qatar is home to the biggest United States air base in the Middle East, Al-Udeid. So far, the dispute between Doha and nations led by Saudi Arabia has yet to shake that partnership, though cracks are showing in responses from President Donald Trump and his administration. "We ask Qatar, and other nations in the region to do more and do it faster".

Qatar's Ministry of Defense said on Wednesday the country signed a deal to buy F-15 fighter jets from the United States for $12 billion.

Last year, after the State Department approved the jet sale, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency issued a report saying that the proposed sale "enhances the foreign policy and national security of the United State by helping to improve the security of a friendly country and strengthening our strategically important relationship". However, the AP said it wasn't immediately clear whether the two deals were one and the same.

The Saudi transport minister arrived at the ICAO headquarters on Thursday, however, a member of the country's delegation said they would not be meeting directly with the Qatar representatives. It houses around 10,000 troops and plays a key role in the US-led operations against the so-called Islamic State (IS) group in Syria and Iraq. "For this objective, the Prime Minister will undertake visits to Kuwait, Qatar, and Turkey", it said.

The USS Cole off the coast of Yemen in February. Bill Urban of the U.S. Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet. This agreement comes as two US warships arrived in the country to carry out joint military exercises with the country.

Qatar's Defence Ministry said the F-15 deal would create 60,000 jobs in the USA and lead to closer strategic collaboration in the fights against violent extremism.

According to Reuters, Qatar officials and Jim Mattis, the Defense Secretary of the United States, were supposed to meet on Wednesday in order to solidify the agreement.

The Pentagon said the jets sale will increase security cooperation between the US and Qatar and help them operate together.

The recent mixed message from the Trump administration, however, has it working even harder, he said.

However, Trump also met with Qatar's ruling emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, during his visit to Saudi Arabia last month. "I condemn this coup plotter who said that the same sanctions on Qatar should also be imposed on Turkey".

The crisis between Qatar and some Arab countries should be resolved "through peace and dialogue", Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said June 14. But its cutoff air travel routes remain problematic.

Qatar is asking the ICAO Council to resolve the conflict, using a dispute resolution mechanism under the Chicago Convention, which governs airspace usage and is overseen by the U.N agency.
