Spanish state prosecutor accuses Jose Mourinho of tax fraud

A statement issued by the section for economic crimes of Madrid's provincial state prosecutor's office said its investigations indicated that Mourinho committed two counts of tax fraud in 2011 and 2012.

A Spanish state prosecutor accused former Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho of tax fraud worth 3.3 million euros ($3.7 million) in unpaid taxes on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old is understood to want to leave Madrid this summer following allegations of tax fraud, but Pepe - a former teammate of Ronaldo at the Bernabeu - insists that the four-time Ballon d'Or victor is still "completely motivated" to help his country.

Spanish media are reporting he will testify at the end of July but Sky sources understand Ronaldo has not received any official communication from Spanish tax authorities over his testimony on 31 July.

The four-time world player of the year, who said last week his "conscience is clear", is threatening to leave Real Madrid over the affair.

Both Ronaldo and Mourinho are clients of football super-agent Jorge Mendes, who has been summoned to appear before the court at Pozuelo de Alarcon on June 27. He also won the Champions League twice with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010).

In 2016, soccer giant Messi, along with his father, was convicted of three counts of tax fraud equaling some $4.6 million earned from the use of Messi's personal brand.
