Boy Scouts balk in response to Trump's latest bogus boasts

The Boy Scouts told the Associated Press on Wednesday: "We are unaware of any such call".

"In terms of the Boy Scouts, multiple members of the Boy Scout leadership following his speech there that day congratulated him, praised him, and offered quite - I'm looking for the word - quite powerful compliments following his speech", Sanders said.

But Scout leaders, who were forced to apologize for Trump's remarks after he boasted about his election victory, criticized former president Barack Obama and discussed NY parties with "the hottest people", appeared to dispute the claim that they told Trump he gave "the greatest" speech.

Last week, Boy Scouts of America president Randall Stephenson said the organisation gave "a lot of thought" to inviting Mr Trump to speak and had given adult staff "stringent guidelines" about how to react to the US President's rhetoric.

The president's speech to over 30,000 boy scouts touched on a number of political topics, including whether Barack Obama ever came to a jamboree.

"And I got a call from the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them, and they were very thankful", the president said, according to a transcript of the interview.

"They were actually direct - they were direct conversations, not actual phone calls", Sanders responded.

"I want to extend my honest apologies to those in our scouting family who were offended by the political rhetoric that was inserted into the jamboree", Surbaugh wrote on the Boy Scouts' website. "That was never our intent". I'm a guy that will tell you mixed. "We sincerely regret that politics were inserted into the Scouting program".

In his apology, Surbaugh noted how every sitting president since 1937 has been invited to the Jamboree, men of both political parties.

Asked about the alleged call, Mexico's foreign relations department said Peña Nieto "has not had any recent telephone communication with President Donald Trump". Any type of political chanting was specifically discouraged. "So there was - there was no mix", Trump added.
