Killed in Egyptian train collision

The Health ministry is yet to announce the final toll. A ministry source put the number of people injured at 120.

Footage broadcast on state television showed one train had partly keeled over in the crash, and medics were seen moving the dead and injured to ambulances.

The deadly incident reportedly took place in the Khorshid district on Alexandria's outskirts.

Two trains have collided head-on in Alexandria, Egypt, killing at least 25 people and injuring 65, according to officials and the state-run news agency MENA.

Egypt's prosecutor-general Nabil Sadiq has ordered an urgent investigation into the collision to find out the reason behind the crash.

In 2012, a collision between a train and school bus on a rail crossing in the town of Manaflut in Upper Egypt killed 51 people, mostly children.

One resident, Hoda, was standing on her rooftop when she saw the trains collide.

Egyptians have long complained that successive governments failed to enforce basic safeguards for the railways.

The deadliest accident on Egypt's railways dates back to 2002 when 373 people died as a fire ripped through a crowded train south of the capital. The train sped for miles, with flames engulfing one carriage after another, killing more than 370 people.
