The larger concern is Haden's injury history.

Haden, a two-time Pro Bowler, gives the defending AFC North champions an upgrade in the secondary in their bid to chase down Super Bowl champion New England.

"I trust [head of football operations] Sashi [Brown] and his group to make the right decisions that I think is best for our football team", Jackson said of the rumors. The Steelers are really good with drawing up contracts that are team-friendly, so I don't expect this one to be any different.

Haden and his agent Drew Rosenhaus are probably aiming higher. They are meeting with Haden Wednesday night, but it appears there won't be much else to do but sign the papers.

Before the workout, Haden, who has been with the team since 2010, laughed as he and linebacker Christian Kirksey danced during stretching.

Haden last made the Pro Bowl in 2014. His role may be reduced in the early going, however, as he works to learn the playbook on a short turnaround before the start of the regular season.

Joe Thomas, the Browns' 10-time Pro Bowl left tackle, directed the following tweet at Haden: "You will truly be missed my man!" "He has been a great teammate and a true asset to the Cleveland community". The other things are way above my head. He's out there making plays. With Ben Rothlisberger flirting with the idea of retirement soon, fans can expect the veteran QB to have one of his best seasons this year.

Haden is coming off a down year, though.

"He's a leader on this defense and he's been a leader to these young guys". But I'm definitely hoping that he will stay with us. He signed a five-year contract extension in May 2014. The deal is for three years and is worth $27 million. Briean Boddy-Calhoun is now listed as Haden's backup on the weekly depth chart.

Pittsburgh knows a lot about Haden, as the Steelers have had to game plan against him on the outside for the last seven years.

Cockrell entered training camp as the starter, but by the third preseason game he was alternating series with Sensabaugh. In total, he played 18 games from 2015-16.

An NFL source told the Beacon Journal the Browns had floated Haden's name to other teams in trade talks for a while.

"If we feel like he can help us at that position, then we'll get involved and get active", general manager John Lynch said on KNBR radio Wednesday.
