Defender Mats Hummels scored with an 88th-minute header to give Germany a 2-1 win away to a battling Czech Republic side and maintain their ideal record after seven games in World Cup qualifying on Friday.

Germany needed a win to effectively confirm their qualification for second-placed Northern Ireland and managed to grab three points with a well-worked set-piece in the 88th minute.

Timo Werner scored an early opener from Mesut Ozil's pass, but Vladimir Darida equalised with a long-range effort.

Where can I watch Czech Republic vs Germany? Germany will be guaranteed a first place with a home win over Norway on Monday and if second-place Northern Ireland fails to beat the Czechs on the same night.

Despite a valiant display, Czech Republic are a further seven points behind in third and nearly out of the running for a second-place finish and a possible playoff place.

"We don't want these anarchists, we are not their national team and the behaviour of some of the fans in Prague was the lowest of the low and deeply despicable", he said. Their last defeat came exactly 16 years ago when they were hammered 5-1 by England in Munich as Michael Owen scored a hat-trick on September 1, 2001.

But the world champion had other ideas and made it seven wins out of seven thanks to Hummels powering in a header from a flighted Toni Kroos free-kick with only three minutes remaining at the Eden Arena on Friday. The Czechs were clearly the best team in the second half. The equaliser was worth the wait as Darida hit the top right-hand corner from 25 yards out, rifling an unstoppable effort past Ter Stegen.
