Hillary Clinton, in TV Interview, Says Election Loss Still 'Very Painful'

Clinton said she had been "gobsmacked" by her loss, and talked about what she did afterward: "I went into a frenzy of closet-cleaning, long walks in the woods, playing with my dog, yoga, had my share of Chardonnay". "It didn't matter to them". "It was a very hard transition", she admitted.

She also said that one of the biggest mistakes she made was using a private email server while serving as secretary of state, although her book includes a lengthy section defending that decision, according to Bloomberg, which was provided an advance copy.

"The forces that were at work in 2016 were unlike anything that I've ever seen or read about", she said.

That's when she gets to her "out of body" experience on the platform listening to Trump's first speech as Prez. which calls a "cry from the white nationalist gut". "And, you know, Bill [Clinton, her husband] just kept saying, 'Oh, you know, that was a terrific [concession] speech, ' trying to just kinda bolster me a little bit".

Not only did she only draft a winning-speech, but she also purchased a home next door to the Clinton family's NY property as a location for White House staff and security.

Clinton is speaking out about the 2016 campaign, much of which is detailed in her new memoir, "What Happened", published by Simon & Schuster. "I felt like I was in a straitjacket. I'm sorry I gave them a political gift of any kind, but I don't think it was determinative", said Clinton. "What an opportunity to say, 'Ok, I'm proud of my supporters, but I'm the president of all Americans.' That's not what we heard at all".

CBS anchor Jane Pauley asked. "People didn't want to hear my plans, they wanted me to share their anger". And there were a large number of people who didn't care.

"It just stopped my momentum", Clinton said.

'I was godsmacked, wiped out, ' she said.

Hillary Clinton opened up about her failed presidential campaign, how she handled losing to a reality TV star, and what that night was really like when she went in expecting to be the first female American president.

Clinton will also be appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah".

Though the interview did not mention Clinton's perspective on the 2016 Democratic primary, many Democrats have privately and publicly grated at the release of the former candidate's book, noting that it reopens numerous intraparty fights that Democrats have been attempting to put behind them since the election.
