Cha-ching! Dallas Cowboys valued at $4.8 billion

According to Forbes magazine, their worth increased 14 per cent in the past year, reaching US$4.8 billion (NZ$6.6b).

The Cowboys' new valuation means that they are now the world's most valuable franchise for the third straight year.

The New England Patriots rank second at $3.7 billion, followed by the New York Giants at $3.3 billion, Washington at $3.1 billion and the San Francisco 49ers at $3.05 billion.

According to a 2017 ranking by Forbes released Monday, that's an 11 percent rise from the team's value the previous season.

The Packers are worth an estimated $2.55 billion, 13th-most in the league. Forbes reported earlier this year that the average baseball franchise is worth $1.54 billion.

Over the past year, the team's value has gone from $2.13 billion to $2.475 billion, which is a 16.2 percent increase. The team recently wrapped up a $47 million round of renovations at Bank of America Stadium, which was part of a five-year, $87.5 million public-private financing agreement with the City of Charlotte. The Cowboys, who saw their value increase by $600 million, had the biggest jump in total value. Also boosting National Football League team values: rich stadium deals and relocations, such as the Raiders' move to Las Vegas and the Chargers to Los Angeles.

The Cowboys, for more than a decade the NFL's most valuable team, are now the top franchise on the planet with Forbes placing their worth at $4.8 billion.

Here's a look at the list of the NFL's most valuable franchises.
