Police investigate an officer's shooting of a man at a Huntington Beach 7 Eleven on Sept. 22 2017

A man was wounded in an officer-involved shooting outside a 7-Eleven in Huntington Beach on Friday morning, police said.

Footage shows the man rising to his feet and moving away from an officer with a dark object in his hand.

The man was transported to a hospital where he died, officials told CNN.

Two short clips posted on social media sites for the OC Hawk news service showed the encounter quickly turning violent.

This is the seventh officer-included shooting in Huntington Beach this year - an aggregate that surpasses some other whole year this decade, as indicated by division documents. The officer tried to retain his weapon while the suspect continued to grab at the officer's belt.

"We're still in the very early stages of this investigation", Bennett said. "And I don't think that there's any way an officer's expected not to defend themselves", CBS Los Angeles reported.

An officer contacted a man at the store located at the intersection of Springdale Street and Edinger Avenue around 9:30 a.m.

The Orange County Sheriff's Department is investigating the incident.

The officer can be heard saying "the suspect is down". "It is nearly a panic shooting because of how quickly he shoots".

The man doesn't appear to have a gun, but Handy said that didn't matter.

In 2017, there have been seven officer-involved shootings.
