Jose re-strengthened from a tropical storm to a Category 1 hurricane this afternoon and could potentially bring Nor'easter-like conditions to NY and Boston next week.

Parts of western CT are no longer under tropical storm watches as Jose continues to move north over the Atlantic, churning up risky surf and rip currents along the East Coast.

The NHC says the Category 1 storm could bring rain and wind to the northeastern USA later this week. The forecast could change, but Jose could also bring Nor'easter-like conditions with wind and rain to New York City Monday night into Tuesday, and for Boston Tuesday into Wednesday.

Swells from Jose are affecting Bermuda, the Bahamas, the northern coasts of Hispaniola and Puerto Rico and the southeast coast of the USA, the center said.

Jose is one of three named storms now active in the Atlantic. It became a hurricane for the first time in a 2:30 a.m. Sunday update and the eye has since then become more defined, the NHC said. Maria is 140 miles east-northeast of Barbados and 275 miles east-southeast of Dominica with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph.

The system is about 755 miles east of the islands, and the governments of St. Lucia, Martinique and Guadeloupe have issued watches.

West of Lee, another disturbance prompted tropical storm watches for a portion of the Lesser Antilles.

Several of these Caribbean islands, including Barbuda and St. Maarten, were devastated when Hurricane Irma hit them, only 10 days ago.

In the Pacific, Tropical Storm Norma's threat to Mexico's Los Cabos area appeared to ease. It had maximum sustained winds of 90 miles per hour (150 kph).

Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Lee slipped back to tropical depression force in the Atlantic and Tropical Storm Otis was gaining force fall out in the Pacific.
