North Korea Says US Declared War, May Take Countermeasures

North Korea's Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho told reporters in NY that US President Donald Trump has declared a war against DPRK.

"Trump claimed our leadership would not be around much longer", North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho told reporters outside his hotel in NY.

The foreign minister opened his brief remarks in Korean by saying that over the last few days, the U.N. and the worldwide community have clearly wished "that the war of words between the DPRK and the United States will not turn into real action".

USA bombers flew in global airspace east of the DPRK on Saturday, in another provocative move which has included military exercises on the Korean peninsula with South Korea and joint military exercises with Japan.

Trump also announced Thursday the widening of US sanctions against the DPRK, banning USA companies and institutions from financing and facilitating trade with the country.

United Nations has approved new sanctions against North Korea after the latter continued to carry out nuclear and ballistic missile tests.

"That operation was conducted in worldwide airspace, over global waters, so we have the right to fly, sail and operate where legally permissible around the globe", Pentagon spokesman Colonel Robert Manning said on Monday.

North Korea in recent weeks detonated its sixth nuclear bomb and has test-fired intercontinental missiles - saying it needs to defend itself against hostility from the United States and its allies.

In his brief address to reporters before heading to the airport, Ri said that the worldwide community had hoped that the "war of words between the DPRK and the United States not turn into real actions".

"None other than Trump himself is on a suicide mission", Ri said in a speech at the UN General Assembly.

The Trump administration also clarified Monday that it is not seeking to overthrow North Korea's government after the president tweeted that Kim Jong Un "won't be around much longer".

A huge crowd gathered Saturday in Pyongyang's Kim Il Sung Square, named for the current leader's grandfather and founder of North Korea.

The tension between North Korea and the United States has escalated to a new high on Monday with former alleging the latter of declaring a war against Pyongyang.

The North Korean Foreign Minister had addressed the UNGA session on Saturday.
