Will law firms benefit from Trump tax plan? Details are sketchy

Cleveland Clinic CEO Says Reform Health Care Costs

On Monday, Republican Senator Rand Paul criticized the nine-page plan released last week.

"As a general matter in tax reform you have to acknowledge that you can not negotiate with everybody's single pay-for", said Doug Holtz-Eakin, who runs the American Action Forum, a conservative group that's working with GOP leaders on taxes. The tax code would no longer reward special interests; every dollar would be taxed equally regardless of who earns it.

Deduction for local and state property taxes may be eliminated.

Rep. Tom MacArthur, a Republican who represents parts of Burlington and Ocean Counties, is pressing to keep the deduction for property taxes, even if that means losing the ability to write off state income taxes.

(Editorial: Trump's tax blueprint opaque on fate of deferrals for retirement savings)White House Budget Director Mick Mulvaney is signaling similar flexibility, saying on CNN Sunday that decisions about deductions remain up in the air as "the bill is not finished yet".

"I've been very candid about this".

1986 was the last time we had meaningful tax reform in this country, and that is a shame.

"I can't guarantee anything", Cohn said. Asked what his biggest challenge would be in getting a tax bill across the finish line, the Utah Republican quipped, "fellow senators". "Our objective is about creating middle-income tax cuts", he said. This tax would be repealed and would benefit the wealthiest of Americans. That expensive thing you want no longer looks so expensive. But more directly to the point, it's inconsistent with the budget the GOP is writing, which calls for "only" $1.5 trillion in increased deficits. "That's going to be a stumbling block for some people".

Mnuchin also reinforced a comment he said on Thursday where he said that the government would get a $1 trillion reduction in its deficit.

Meanwhile, the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a non-profit public policy organization, had a different finding.

One group excited about this hazy approach to policymaking is K Street lobbyists, who love nothing more than to whip clients into a panic about a possible policy change that they need to go collect billable hours to kill. It will be up to Congress to fill in many details. With just 35 legislative working days left this year, some congressional Republican aides privately have said the issue could get pushed into 2018, an election year. Eliminating these deductions will also close numerous loopholes and shelters that reward special interests at the expense of everyone else.

In Meehan's home turf, Delaware County, roughly 40 percent of filers claimed the deduction on their 2015 taxes, letting them shield an average of $13,428 of income from federal taxes.

There should be no tax cuts for "the rich" until the president releases his tax returns ("Trump, GOP outline proposal to lower, simplify taxes", September 27).

That won't be easy. They want to reduce the 7 brackets down to 3 brackets of 12%, 25%, and 35%, bring the Corporate Tax Rate down from 35% to 20%, and cut the tax rate for small business. It also repeals the Alternative Minimum Tax and estate tax, which hit high earners and the wealthy, respectively. GOP lawmakers said the study was flawed because it presumed details that they haven't yet chose to include in legislation.

Critics lambasted Trump's tax-reform plan. Not to say that I agree with every detail of the plan, but it would be so much better than the tax system we have now by far.

"If they get beaten up enough, they might want to", Hatch said.
