The film was originally scheduled for release in April of 2019. Unfortunately, that is the original premiere date for "Fast 9", which has now been bumped off one year, to April 2020.

The Fast and Furious franchise has been plagued by drama lately thanks to a major riff between stars Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel, but the latest beef between cast members has resulted in the next installment in the long-running series getting pushed back. Chris Morgan, who has been a part of the Fast franchise since he penned Tokyo Drift, will write the script.

Statham cameoed in Fast & Furious 6 and co-starred in the last two films.

However, no deals have been made with the actors, reports Hollywood Reporter.

"Fast 9" was initially slated for a 2019 premiere, but Universal has gotten another idea and postponed it. Reportedly, director Justin Lin may be lining up to return to the franchise. Every new Fast & Furious film features more over the top stunts than the last, so we're not quite sure where the series can go from here considering that Fate of the Furious featured hacked cars driving off auto parks and a destructive finale with a submarine.

Universal Studios has just announced a release date of the Fast and Furious spin-off. If "diversity, love, multi-ethnic, worldwide, multi-generational" content is important to have represented in cinema (and it is), isn't it a good thing for the Fast and Furious franchise to expand and include other projects with franchise characters - and potentially introduce new ones? So we can probably expect to see more of these films and even more spinoffs if the franchise continues to produce box office success.
